TODAY'S LEARNING
Ancient Science of Self-Healing- Ayurveda

What is Ayurveda:

Mother Nature provided for all of our needs when she placed us on this earth, from an abundance of herbs to ward against illness to food and water for sustenance.

The foundation of Ayurveda is the idea that nature has given us what we need to heal a wide range of ailments and lead active, healthy lives.

Life is balanced on four pillars, according to the core principles of Ayurveda: body, mind, soul, and spirit. As each of these pillars is essential to our general well-being and health, Ayurveda suggests a comprehensive strategy for preserving perfect balance between these fundamental components of life.

Dating back to 5000 years ago, the traditional Ayurveda system utilises herbs present in nature to treat various health concerns and help manifest a disease-free life. Nevertheless, there is no denying the value of Ayurveda in day-to-day living.

The science behind it:

Ayurveda is a way of life rather than just a system of traditional treatment.

Thus, how does Ayurveda function?

Ayurvedic healing methods have stood the test of time and survived the dawn and dominance of the modern medicine system.

Achieving balance and harmony between humans and their environment of thriving is the fundamental goal of Ayurveda. Based on this notion, Ayurveda aids in the promotion of recovery and ideal health.

The Vedic philosophy holds that humans are inextricably linked to their environment and are a part of all that exists. This implies that the individual's body and mind will be impacted, either directly or indirectly, by any changes made to their natural habitat.

For example, alterations in weather, food, and lifestyle can have an impact on our general health and function.

Therefore, in order for humans to enjoy a healthy, fulfilling life both physically and psychologically, they must coexist in perfect harmony with their surroundings.

Beyond the concepts and practices of contemporary science, Ayurveda has far greater significance and reach. Ayurveda is a multifaceted approach to healing and well-being, addressing a person's physical, mental, spiritual, social, and psychological elements.

The three bodily principles that make up our general state of health.

Every person has a different combination of three body principles that make up their mental, bodily, and spiritual well-being, according to Ayurveda. The term "doshas" refers to these three principles, which are further divided into Vata (air-ether), Kapha (water-earth), and Pitta (water). However, each person has a distinct constitution of their own, which is typically ruled by one or two doshas. This indicates that one of these doshas, or a mixed constitution of two doshas, such as Vata & Pitta, Kapa & Pitta, or Vata & Pitta, make up the majority of our Ayurvedic constitution.

Incorporating Ayurveda in daily life:

#1 Align your daily schedule with the rhythms of nature

This means waking up at sunrise and sleeping before midnight, usually by 10 PM. Ayurveda also recommends eating seasonal fruits and vegetables, as it's nature's way of telling you what you should eat at what time of the year.

#2 Strengthen Your Digestive Fire

According to Ayurveda, your overall health is largely governed by your digestive system. To keep your digestive fire blazing, it is essential to eat well-cooked meals prepared with seasonal, local produce. Include soups and salads in your diet and avoid canned, frozen and processed foods.

#3 Take proper rest

Your body requires adequate rest to get its energy reserves back to 100%. Ayurveda recommends 7-8 hours of sleep every night and advises against sleeping in the afternoon. You may also consider turning off your electronic gadgets at least 30 minutes before bedtime to allow your eyes and mind to relax.

#4 Meditation and Mindfulness

A brief meditation session in the morning can help elevate your mental faculties and bring you a sense of calm. Most people use guided meditation to reduce stress and anxiety, but it can also reflect and connect with your inner self.

#5 Explore nature's trove of herbs and spices

Ayurveda recommends using herbs and spices in your cooking. Not only do these herbs add flavour to your meals, but they also offer various healing and health benefits. These spices are grounded roots, bark, fruits, flowers, or seeds derived from plants. Some common herbs and spices used in Indian kitchens include turmeric, coriander powder, cumin seeds, ginger, etc.

Here's a list of some of the most popular Ayurvedic treatments:

Abhyangam: Traditional Ayurvedic massage performed using warm, medicated oils for relaxation, joint care, and muscle healing.

Shirodhara: A therapeutic treatment that involves dripping medicated oil on the recipient's forehead while they lie on their back.

Kashaya Dhara: Like Shirodhara, Kashaya Dhara involves pouring a herbal decoction over the entire body or a specific area to promote relaxation and ensure perfect harmony between body, mind, and spirit.

Greeva Basti: This treatment is performed by bathing the neck area with a herbal decoction or heated medicated oil. It helps with occasional neck pain, stiffness, and fatigue.

Janu Basti: This treatment is performed by holding warm, medicated oil inside a wheat dough compartment over the knee joints. It helps with knee pain, stiffness, and mobility issues.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

People don’t always say “I love you”. Sometimes it sounds like this: Be safe, did you eat, call me when you get home, I made you this.
