TODAY'S LEARNING
How To Awaken Your Authentic Self
How to Be Authentic
Discovering and growing into your true self won't happen overnight. Instead, it's an ongoing process of learning. Take the following steps to make a start:
1. Live By Your Values
Living authentically means that you live according to the values and beliefs that you hold most dear, and that the personal goals that you pursue emerge from these. Finding your basic beliefs and making a commitment to live and work in accordance with them should be your first steps. Next, you must establish goals for your career and personal life that complement them.
2. Identify the Gap
Is there a difference between the person you know you could be and the one you are now?
For instance, do you put on a mask when you're at work? Maybe you believe that's how a leader gets things done, so you're more abrasive with your team than you'd like to be. Perhaps you take a casual approach to your work because you don't want people to think you're uninteresting, even though you approach your work with seriousness. Alternatively, perhaps you have a ton of ideas but you never share them because you fear your colleagues will reject them, which makes you feel miserable and confined.
Try to identify these gaps by writing a list of words that describe the qualities of the person you know you can be, and by thinking about how closely these reflect how you actually are.
Next, pick a word from this list that you wish to focus on. For example, you might want to be more "open." Use personal goal-setting techniques, and resolve to work on this every day. It's more realistic to set small goals and work on one trait at a time than it is to try to transform your entire life, all at once.
3. Live With Integrity
Integrity requires bravery to cultivate and maintain. Analyze your everyday decisions to start. You will often intuitively know what the right and wrong choices are: your goal is to learn how to listen to that "small voice" – that sense of unease – that tells you that something is wrong. Study each choice that you make, and ask yourself which one will make you feel good about yourself the next day.
Being a person of integrity also entails accepting accountability for your deeds, including your errors. Take responsibility for the decisions you make and put in great effort to make up for any errors.
4. Communicate Honestly
Speaking your mind while honoring the wants and feelings of the other person is a sign of honest communication. Emotional intelligence and effective communication are required for this.
It also means not playing games: you speak your mind and don't rely on cryptic hints or other tactics to get your point across.
Communicating honestly also means keeping your promises – if you give your word to someone, then treat it as a bond. Never pledge something you are unable to fulfill.
5. Don't Make Assumptions
It's simple to assume the worst about others as you go through life. If passing judgment isn't absolutely required, do your best to refrain from doing so. Try to take people at face value and let their actions speak for themselves.
You might find that as you make an effort to be open-minded with others, they'll extend the same courtesy to you.

CRYSTAL OF THE DAY
POSITIVE NEWS OF THE DAY
Majestic Sei Whales Reappear in Argentine Waters After Nearly a Century
GNN has reported several times over the last three years about large baleen whales returning to waters in which they haven’t been sighted for decades.
Now again, news from Argentina shows that the benefits of the 1946 International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling are still compounding, with sei whales returning to the South American nation’s coastal waters for the first time in nearly a decade.
Overhunting during the 1920s and 1930s led these massive blue-grey giants to abandon their ancestral waters in Argentina.
“After nearly a century of being hunted to near extinction, sei whale populations are now bouncing back and returning to their former habitats,” said Mariano Coscarella, a biologist and marine ecosystem researcher at Argentina’s CONICET scientific agency, who added that the whales “reproduce every two or three years, so it nearly took 100 years for their population to reach a level where people could notice their presence.”
FOOD FOR THE SOUL
Ayurveda Recipes: Curried Plantains Quesadilla

This recipe will open you up to a new perspective on the culinary possibilities of plantain. This versatile member of the banana family is often used in place of potatoes due to its starch content and relatively neutral flavor. Not as sweet or soft as the bananas we are accustomed to, plantains can be easily incorporated in savory dishes. They will add substance and fuel to your meal, leaving you feeling satisfied and energized. For best results, cook plantains (they can be too firm and taste quite bitter when eaten raw) and ensure they are ripe. They can feel cold and dry in the gut due to their astringent nature, but once they absorb the oily qualities of ghee and warmth of spices in the recipe they become easier to digest and satisfying. Add a fresh ginger, cilantro and lime sauce to lighten and freshen the meal.
Ingredients
16 g CILANTRO
1/4 tsp CUMIN
1/2 tsp CURRY POWDER
2 tbsp GHEE
1 inch GINGER (FRESH)
2 c GREEN PLANTAIN
2 whole LIME
1 c MASA
1 pinch RED PEPPER FLAKES (CHILI)
1/3 lbs SPINACH
1/4 tsp TURMERIC
Instructions
Notes: Use pre-made burrito / tortilla wrap for shorter preparation time.
1. Ensure plantains are ripe for a sweeter effect, or unripe for less sweet and more savory effect. Peel, then chop into bite sized chunks. Make a paste of the spices by mixing spices with a few drops of water.
2. Heat ghee and fry plantain on medium heat until golden brown. Add a little dab of ghee at end, add spices, and fry for a few seconds only. Then mix spices with the plantain.
3. Remove the plantain and wilt spinach leaves in the same pan.
4. Blend juice of lime, cilantro and fresh ginger into a light sauce.
5. Take a tortilla wrap and place it in a clean, non stick frying pan.
6. Over one half, spread a layer of curried plantain, wilted spinach and a drizzle of the lime sauce. Mash the plantains slightly.
7. Fold the tortilla in half and heat on medium for 1-2 minutes on each side until lightly golden and crispy. Cut into wedges.
