TODAY'S LEARNING
Boost Your Self-Worth

Self-esteem can shift from moment to moment, and day-to-day. There are moments when you have a strong sense of self-worth and believe that nothing can ever defeat you. Soon after, unfavorable ideas might start to fill your head.

What can lower self-esteem?

Abuse: Having challenging and abusive parental interactions as a child or adult can be detrimental to your self-esteem. According to research, one of the main causes of low self-esteem is parental or other adult abuse, both physically and emotionally.

Mindset: A fixed or gloomy mindset reduces self-esteem by filling your head with unfavorable ideas. Your confidence wanes when you're reminded that you're not good enough or that nothing good will happen to you.

Life events: While some life events uplift you, others lower your self-esteem. Consider the scenario when you're failing a few assignments in a challenging course at school. You begin berating yourself and thinking that your achievements are inadequate. Moving towns, changing employment, or receiving a diploma from school could all have an impact on you individually.

3 tactics to improve your self-esteem:

1. Write out a list of things you admire about yourself

It can be difficult, even uncomfortable, to take a seat and consider our positive qualities. However, you can enhance your self-talk by praising your abilities or positive aspects of yourself.

Consider keeping a journal of your accomplishments that you found inspiring or enjoyable. Keeping a gratitude notebook can also greatly enhance your perspective on life and help you identify your blessings.

Don't just jot down every affirmation you read that is positive. Rather, choose affirmations that speak to you and think about learning to accept who you are. What is it that you find admirable and valuable? Remember these attributes when you notice your mind fills with negative thoughts. Avoid generic mantras and focus on phrases meaningful to you.

2. Stop being a people pleaser

Individuals who have low self-esteem may feel pressured to grant requests. They frequently prioritize the emotional health of others before their own. This can lead to being easily overwhelmed, whether that’s at work or in your personal life. This in turn leads to a great deal of tension.

Being supportive and helpful to others is admirable, but when you base your value on how much you accomplish for other people, your self-esteem gradually declines. Learn how to say no to others.

3. Step outside your comfort zone

Those with low self-esteem tend to avoid challenges and new opportunities. Fears or self-doubt may be the cause of this. But when you succeed in any big or small way, you show yourself that you can persevere through rough moments.

Stepping outside your comfort zone doesn't mean that you have to throw yourself into highly uncomfortable situations. It indicates that you're open to trying new things even in challenging circumstances.

POSITIVE NEWS OF THE DAY

Getting On the Dance Floor Will Shred Pounds in Overweight People, Improve Blood Pressure and Mental Health

Boogying the night away produces meaningful improvements in one’s body mass and waist circumference in people who are overweight or obese, a new study found.

Additionally, it has been seen that dancing improves blood pressure, insulin sensitivity, physical fitness, mental health, hypertension, cardiovascular ailments, and cognitive disorders—all of which are the main causes of the non-communicable diseases that claim the lives of the majority of people in the West.

The reason the researchers thought dancing would be a better kind of exercise is that it's sustainable; instead of being a chore that participants have to force themselves through, dancing is a social, enjoyable activity.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

When you fall in love with someone’s flowers, but not their roots, they don’t know what to do when autumn comes. Your relationship needs to be built on a deep alignment of values, character, and morals (the roots), not just “love”, appearance, hobbies & status (the flowers).
