Control Your Mind

At times, you might have thoughts that you would rather not have, such as persistent worries, recurring concerns, or a visit from anxiety. Often, the more you try to free your mind from these thoughts, the louder they become.

For example: try not to think about a big pink elephant. Chances are the more you concentrate on not thinking about the elephant, the more your mind will actually focus on that image. This is because the mind is not good at focusing on “not doing” something.

The best way to free your mind from unwanted thoughts is to engage it with other thoughts or to remove or resolve the cause of the thoughts you are having.

Forgiving another person (or yourself) can help you to move on from the past and release yourself from negative emotions and thoughts.

2. Meditate

If you’re wondering how to clear your mind of unwanted thoughts, try meditation.

Meditation has been used for thousands of years to clear and free the mind. Doing so doesn’t have to involve burning candles and sitting in the lotus position; it can be sitting comfortably, allowing thoughts to enter your mind and pass through without engaging in them. Doing this for as little as ten minutes can be enough to free your mind from persistent or annoying thoughts.

3. Practice EFT

The emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is something that can be learned quickly (in a matter of minutes) and can help you to feel better immediately. EFT is often also called “tapping”. EFT involves verbalizing the problem or issue at hand while using an affirmation phrase and tapping energy points on the body.

4. Find Hobbies You Love

Do these more often! Engaging in a pastime you enjoy helps to promote a more mindful and meditative state of mind. This state allows the mind to relax and focus on the pursuit being undertaken, replacing other thoughts that may be occupying your mind.

5. Dance!

Move your body and let go of what you think you look like! This is guaranteed to alter your mood and free your mind.

6. Practice Gratitude

Being grateful allows you to live in the present and see the blessings in front of you right now. Journaling, gratitude mantras, and even saying affirmations on your way to work are all ways to express thanks for all the big and small things in life.

7. Use Positive Affirmations

You are affirming all the time by the way you think and talk. “Things never go my way” is a negative affirmation. Replace that thought with a positive affirmation such as “things are working out in my favor.”

8. Exercise/Walk/Yoga

Exercising focuses the body on its physical requirements and takes your attention off your mind. Exercise also releases endorphins and lowers cortisol, often bringing about a more positive and happier mood.

Giving Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) to subjects with cognitive impairment for three months resulted in improved cognitive scores that were linked to specific, quantifiable changes in gut microbiome composition.

“The implication of this finding is quite exciting, as it means that modifying the gut microbiome through probiotics could potentially be a strategy to improve cognitive performance, particularly in individuals with mild cognitive impairment,” said Mashael Aljumaah, a microbiology doctoral candidate at the University of North Carolina.

“This adds a new layer to our understanding of the microbiome brain-gut connection and opens up new avenues for combating cognitive decline associated with aging.”

The crunchy texture of pistachios compliments the sweet and smooth consistency of this creamy dessert. Hearty, rich pistachios also offer a savory balance to sweet ice cream.

Ingredients

1 tsp CARDAMOM

3 c HEAVY CREAM

1/4 c PISTACHIO

2/3 c RAW SUGAR

1 tsp ROSE PETALS

2 tbsp ROSE WATER

1 tsp SAFFRON

1/4 c SKIM MILK POWDER

Instructions

1. Put the pistachios in the freezer.

2. Heat the remaining ingredients over low heat until the sugar is dissolved and it begins to steam. Briskly whisk for one minute.

3. Chill all ingredients in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

4. Use an ice cream maker, or if not available, simply place in the freezer and stir every fifteen minutes until frozen.

5. When the ice cream is almost done, drop in the and/or pistachios, if using. Serve in frozen bowls and garnish with candied rose petals.

Alternatively, freeze 3/4's of the liquid portion, then place in a vitamix or high end blender with the remaining 1/4. Mix in the solid ingredients.
