Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was born in 1956 in Southern India. As a child, he was very smart. By the time he was four, he could quote from the Bhagavad Gita, an old Sanskrit text, and he often sat in deep meditation. Sudhakar Chaturvedi was Sri Sri's first teacher (He knew Mahatma Gandhi for a long time) In 1973, when he was 17 years old, Sri Sri had already earned degrees in both Vedic literature and physics.
A noted humanitarian leader, Sri Sri’s programs have provided assistance to people from a wide range of backgrounds – victims of natural disasters, survivors of terror attacks and war, children from marginalized populations, and communities in conflict, among others. The power of his message has led to a wave of spiritually-based service by a large number of volunteers. These volunteers are moving these projects forward in important places around the world.
As a spiritual leader, Sri Sri has brought back the ancient practices of yoga and meditation and given them a 21st-century twist. Sri Sri has done more than just bring back old knowledge. New study shows that if you walk briskly for just 11 minutes a day, you cut your risk of dying early by almost a quarter.
The team, which was led by researchers at the University of Cambridge, showed that 75 minutes a week of moderate-intensity physical exercise could avoid one in ten early deaths.
The study showed that this would be enough to lower the chance of heart disease, stroke, and a number of cancers. Heart disease and stroke are the top causes of death around the world.
To explore the amount of physical activity necessary to have a beneficial impact on several chronic diseases and premature death, researchers from the Medical Research Council (MRC) Epidemiology Unit at the University of Cambridge carried out a systematic review and meta-analysis, pooling and analyzing cohort data from all of the published evidence. With this method, they were able to combine studies that didn't give enough proof on their own and sometimes contradicted each other to come to stronger results.
They looked at the data of more than 30 million people who took part in 94 big study groups and were reported in 196 peer-reviewed articles. This is the largest analysis to date of the link between physical exercise levels and the risk of heart disease, cancer, and dying young.

Neuroscientist Richard Davidson of University of Wisconsin has found that people who meditate regularly exhibit high levels of gamma wave activity. Such activity allows these frequent meditators better control of their thoughts and reactivity. Additional studies have found that these high levels of gamma waves actually lead to neuroplasticity. This is “the brain’s ability to change, structurally and functionally, on the basis of environmental input.”

Instruction
Begin lying on your back.
Cross your right knee over left, winging your feet out to the sides slightly.
Take hold of the outer edge of your right foot with your left hand and the outer edge of your left foot with your right hand.
Keep your knees stacked, and direct your feet with your hands, moving in the direction of getting shins into one long line. Bend your elbows and flex your feet. Breathe here for at least five deep breaths, then repeat on other side.
