Dark Night Of The Soul

Dark Night of the Soul: What Is It?

The phrase "Dark Night of the Soul" describes a profoundly intimate spiritual encounter. You go through a phase of feeling disoriented, alone, and possibly even hopeless. This goes beyond simply having a terrible day or going through a difficult period; it's a period of profound introspection and change, during which the fundamentals of your worldview and values are challenged.

A Spiritual Awakening

Fascinatingly, spiritual enlightenment is sometimes associated with Dark Night of the Soul. Although it may seem paradoxical, how can being lost contribute to awakening? During this Dark Night, you start questioning everything, leading to a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you. It's similar to removing layers to show a more genuine version of yourself.

Uranium Mine Leased for Years Becomes Part of National Park in Historic Win for Native Activists

n a major win for the traditional owners of Australia, the federal government has ordered the end of the land leasing program for the Jabiluka uranium deposit, ensuring that mining will never occur on the land owned by the Mirarr people.

At the same time, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his coalition added it to the nearby Kakadu National Park, a UNESCO Natural Heritage Site twice the size of Yellowstone.

Various parties to the disagreement over the destiny of Jabiluka described the decision as “a great day for the Mirarr people, for Kakadu, the Northern Territory, and for Australia,” “a genuine and welcome surprise,” and “a reminder of the extraordinary privilege all of us have, to share this continent with the world’s oldest continuous culture.”

ZEN STORY
A Smile in His Lifetime

Mokugen was never known to smile until his last day on earth. When his time came to pass away he said to his faithful ones: “You have studied under me for more than ten years. Show me your real interpretation of Zen. Whoever expresses this most clearly shall by my successor and receive my robe and bowl.”

Everyone watched Mokugen’s severe face, but no one answered.

Encho, a disciple who had been with his teacher for a long time, moved near the bedside. He pushed forward the medicine cup a few inches. This was his answer to the command.

The teacher’s face became even more severe. “Is that all you understand?” he asked.

Encho reached out and moved the cup back again.

A beautiful smile broke over the features of Mokugen. “You rascal,” he told Encho. “You worked with me ten years and have not yet seen my whole body. Take the robe and bowl. They belong to you.”

Low Plank Pose (Chaturanga Dandasana)

What is Low Plank Pose?

Low plank pose, or chaturanga dandasana in Sanskrit, is most commonly practiced in Vinyasa yoga as a transition between plank and upward-facing dog pose. From plank, the yogi bends their elbows and lowers their body toward the ground, using the strength of their core and arms to hold the pose.

Instructions

  • Begin in plank.

  • Exhale and bend the elbows until the upper arms are parallel to the floor. Keep the elbows close to the body. The legs and torso should be in one straight line. Gaze toward the floor.

  • Breathe while holding the pose.
