Gyana Yoga: A mini guide...

Gyana (sometimes written jnana) is wisdom, the goal of all learning and knowledge. Gyana Yoga is the path where reality is discovered through insight, practice, and knowledge.Gyana Yoga has four principles:

Viveka - Discrimination

Viveka is the purest way to know something. It can also be thought of as our conscience's highest authority. Our sense of right and wrong comes from our conscience. Most of the time, we know exactly what we should do, but our selfish wants usually win out and drown out the voice of our conscience.

Vairagya - Renunciation

Vairagya means to free yourself on the inside from any desire for pleasure or things on earth. A Gyana Yogi has realized that there are no real pleasures in the world, so they have no lasting value. A Gyana Yogi looks for God, who is always the same and never changes. All things in this world are temporary, which means they are not real. Reality is the Divine Self, or Atma, which cannot be destroyed and never changes. Space is a lot like the Atma. Space will always be space; you can't burn or cut it. If we build walls, we make "individual" spaces for each person. But this doesn't change space itself, and when the walls come down, there will only be unbounded, endless space.

Shatsampatti - The Six Treasures

This principle of Gyana Yoga comprises six principles:

  • Shama - withdrawal of the senses and the mind.

  • Dama - control of the senses and the mind. To restrain oneself from negative actions, such as stealing, lying, and negative thoughts.

  • Uparati - to stand above things.

  • Titiksha - to be steadfast, disciplined. To endure through and overcome all difficulties.

  • Shraddha - faith and trust in the Holy Scriptures and the words of the Master.

  • Samadhana - to have determination and purpose. Whatever may come, our aspirations should always be directed solely toward our goals. Nothing should ever be able to dissuade us from this.

Mumukshtva - Constant Striving for God

Mumukshtva is the heart's burning desire to know God and be one with God. Atma Gyana, or becoming aware of our true Self, is the Supreme and Eternal Knowledge. Self-realization is the experience that we are one with God and all of life, and not separate from either. When this Realization comes to light, the mind's limits are opened up and become absolute. Our hearts are full of love that fills everything. It also becomes clear that what hurts other people hurts us in the end. So, finally, we get the Universal Precept of Ahimsa, or nonviolence, and try to follow it. In this way, the principles of Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga, and Raja Yoga all come together on the path of Gyana Yoga.

The prohibition will apply to a stretch of the Mahakam River in Borneo.

Instead of fighting a disease or illness directly – Ayurveda focuses on improving your overall health so the body can do the job for you. Equilibrium is the goal and balance is always key. The holistic nature of Ayurveda is one of the things that makes it both effective, and also a long-term (rather than a quick bandaid) solution.

Ayurveda-inspired, digestion-boosting tea

Cumin, coriander, and fennel tea is a classic yogic and Ayurvedic tea that can improve digestive health, reduce bloating, improve nutrient absorption, and calm stomach troubles. These spices help reduce inflammation and increase "Agni," or the "fire of digestion." You can make a big pot of this tea and sip it all day long to get the benefits of the herbs.

INGREDIENTS (serves 1)

1-liter water

1 tsp cumin seeds

1 tsp coriander seeds

1 tsp fennel seeds

1 tsp honey (optional)

METHOD

-Add the water and spices to a large pot and bring to a boil

-Turn down the heat and simmer gently for 15 minutes

-Take off the heat and strain into a mug or flask to sip throughout the day. Top up with more hot water if needed.

-Add the honey if you want to increase the sweetness
