HOW TO:Dissolve The Ego

Yoga teaches us that the essence of our true, spiritual nature, which is who we truly are at the center of our being, is not the same as our ego. The ego is connected to our outward appearance and manifests itself in negative thoughts that influence our daily mental landscape. With its fear-based worry, the ego used to be quite helpful in defending us against prehistoric predators. However, the ego is now just that inner voice that keeps us feeling disconnected from one another and the universe. It’s the storyteller that makes up delicious little lies that keep us bound up and attached to the thoughts about who we think we are.

A Guided Meditation To Connect & Disconnect WIth Your Ego:

Locate a relaxing spot for meditation. Rock gently from side to side, from front to back, until you find yourself seated in the center of your sit bones. Allow the shoulders to drop away from the ears while maintaining a long spine. Now close your eyes and start concentrating on your breaths, both in and out. As your breath cleanses any tension from your body and mind, feel how powerful it is.

Think about how it feels to be you for a second. Feel into who you are. What's it like to act out the roles you do in your life? How does your ego identity feel, in other words? Take note of the ways in which being you feels satisfying. Take note of how this identity feels constricting. Since our ego identities prevent us from living in the great, sacred divine nature that we truly are, the majority of us feel constrained by them.

Think about how you might live in harmony with your ego for a moment. For a while, just allow yourself to breathe into the question to see if anything emerges. Being the witness of your ego as you meditate is one way to achieve this. Another way to do this is to use a particular mantra to understand the ego part of you and the sacred part of you. Do that right away.

Keep your eyes closed and take deep breaths. Continually feel the tension in your body and mind melt away. On your next inhalation, recite the Sanskrit word, ham. On the exhalation, recite the word, so. Ham is a bija that translates to “me," “I” or “mine,” while so means "that." So'ham means "I am That," which means that I am the great divine, enormous, and sacred universe.

Feel the significance of So'ham in your very core. Let ham connect to what it feels like to be the “me,” the “mine" and the “I.” The ego appears here. Connect deeply with the feeling of a limited ego during inhalation. Feel into the sensation of being that immense, sacred power that is you as you exhale on the so. Repeat this exercise several times, allowing your egoistic being's tightening sensation to progressively let go.

Feel into the sense of expansiveness that is your true nature as you do this. Breathe deeply and relax into it. Open your eyes gradually.

Homeless Man Hailed as Hero for Rescuing Family from Apartment Fire: ‘He was an angel’

A mother in Arizona woke up to discover that her apartment building had quickly gone up in flames, trapping her in the second floor.

In order to escape, Claudia Jimenez opened the window and shouted for help to anyone nearby because the fire had blocked the front door.

Joe Hollins, who lived in a homeless camp with his wife close to Jimenez's home, was the first person on the scene instead of a firefighter.

DID YOU KNOW?

Food is very important in Ayurveda and is classified in the following ways- Sweet, Salty, Sour, Bitter, Pungent, and Astringent. You’ll be encouraged to follow a diet that adheres to a combination of these types of food instead of the traditional balance of protein and carbohydrates that a Western nutritionist will recommend. The balance of flavors is related to your dosha type.

About: This beloved bestseller—over 180,000 copies sold—has helped caregivers worldwide keep themselves emotionally, psychologically, spiritually, and physically healthy in the face of the sometimes overwhelming traumas they confront every day.

A longtime trauma worker, Laura van Dernoot Lipsky offers a deep and empathetic survey of the often-unrecognized toll taken on those working to make the world a better place. We may feel tired, cynical, or numb or like we can never do enough. These, and other symptoms, affect us individually and collectively, sapping the energy and effectiveness we so desperately need if we are to benefit humankind, other living things, and the planet itself.

In Trauma Stewardship, we are called to meet these challenges in an intentional way. Lipsky offers a variety of simple and profound practices, drawn from modern psychology and a range of spiritual traditions, that enable us to look carefully at our reactions and motivations and discover new sources of energy and renewal. She includes interviews with successful trauma stewards from different walks of life and even uses New Yorker cartoons to illustrate her points.
