Guided Breathwork Scripts

Guided breathwork can be a powerful tool to help participants relax, center, and energize themselves. Here are a few scripts designed for various outcomes: relaxation, grounding, and energizing.

1. Calm-Alertness Breathwork (Alternate Nostril Breathing)

Goal: To balance energy and create calm alertness.

"Sit in a comfortable position with your spine long and your shoulders relaxed. Bring your right hand up to your face, placing your right thumb by your right nostril and your ring finger by your left nostril. Let your eyes close gently.

Start by pressing your thumb to close off the right nostril and inhale deeply through the left nostril…

Now, gently close the left nostril with your ring finger and release the right nostril. Exhale slowly and fully through the right nostril.

Inhale through the right nostril, filling your lungs…

Now switch, closing the right nostril and releasing the left. Exhale through the left nostril, nice and slowly.

Repeat at your own pace, continuing to alternate sides. Feel the balance in each breath, letting go of any distractions or stress. With each cycle, you may feel your mind becoming clearer and more balanced, a perfect state of calm-alertness."

2.Energizing Breathwork (3-Part Breath)

Goal: To boost energy and alertness.

"Find a comfortable position, sitting up tall with your spine straight, feet grounded, and hands resting on your knees or in your lap. Close your eyes if you’re comfortable doing so, and take a full breath in and a long breath out.

We’ll practice a 3-part breath to energize the body and bring a fresh sense of vitality.

Start by inhaling slowly, filling your belly, letting it expand… then your ribs, letting them widen… then your chest, letting it lift fully.

Now exhale in reverse: release the chest… the ribs… and then let the belly empty completely.

Let's go again. Inhale deeply, breathing first into the belly… then the ribs… and finally the chest.

And exhale slowly, emptying the chest… then the ribs… and finally the belly.

Continue with this 3-part breath at your own pace, letting the energy flow with each inhale, and releasing any tension with each exhale.

Allow yourself to feel more awake, energized, and present with every round."

3.Grounding Breathwork (Box Breathing)

Goal: To create a sense of calm and centeredness.

"To begin, find a comfortable position, either sitting with your feet on the floor or lying down. Let your hands rest softly in your lap or by your sides.

Begin by closing your eyes or gently focusing your gaze. Start with a slow, deep breath in. Now let’s start our ‘box breathing’ practice.

Inhale deeply through your nose to a count of 4… 1… 2… 3… 4.

Hold the breath gently for 4… 1… 2… 3… 4.

Exhale softly through your mouth for 4… 1… 2… 3… 4.

And hold again for 4… 1… 2… 3… 4.

Let’s repeat.

Inhale again to a count of 4… 1… 2… 3… 4.

Hold for 4… 1… 2… 3… 4.

Exhale slowly to a count of 4… 1… 2… 3… 4.

And hold for 4… 1… 2… 3… 4.

Continue with this pattern, finding the flow of the breath, as if you’re drawing a square with each breath. Notice the calming, grounding rhythm, bringing yourself fully into this moment, feeling steady and grounded."

Using any of these scripts, you can guide participants into specific states of relaxation, grounding, or energy, creating a peaceful and supportive experience.

Australia to protect under 16s from social media

Australia has become the latest country to announce measures designed to protect children from social media.

Amid studies that link social media use with poor mental health among children, countries are moving to clamp down on the platforms. The Australian government pledged this week to introduce a lower age limit, of 16, for social media access, with penalties for platforms that fail to comply. The government has not yet said how it will be enforced.

Last month, the Norwegian government announced a strict minimum age limit for social media of 15. The French government, meanwhile, is trialling a ban on smartphones in school. Ireland is expected to do the same.

One school in the Netherlands has gone even further by barring parents from a marks-sharing app. Jordan MLU in Utrecht found that the app, which shares every mark with parents, increased stress among children.
