TODAY'S LEARNINGAyurvedic Immune Boosting Herbs
Only when all seven layers of our body's tissues—Rasa, Mamsa, Rakta, Medha, Majja, Asthi, and Shukra—are strong, according to Ayurveda, can our body fight diseases. Hence, our immunity will be enhanced when all seven levels are functioning properly. Your bodily tissues contain a faint, unseen essence that keeps you healthy, called Ojas. According to Ayurveda, specific plants and plant products might boost our immunity by building Ojas.
Guduchi
Guduchi or Giloy is an Ayurvedic plant that has been prized for its curative properties to increase immunity by soothing Vata and Kapha dosha. Because of its high nutritional value and the alkaloids, glycosides, steroids, and other substances, it contains, Giloy is thought to be particularly useful. The herb helps stimulate the immune system and prevent infections by protecting the white blood cells, fighting free radicals, treating other respiratory conditions, and alleviating a chronic cough.
Turmeric
It has been demonstrated that the anti-inflammatory characteristics turmeric possesses are beneficial against infections and help to elevate general health. Because of this, it’s become the herb of choice for treating immunity. In addition to enhancing immunity, this plant contributes to the cleansing of the blood and lymphatic system. Its active ingredient curcumin has been shown in clinical studies to kill harmful pathogens, reduce swelling in the body and improve circulation, so your body can heal faster when you're sick or injured.
Amalaki
Amalaki (Amla) is a therapeutic fruit used to treat multiple conditions and can be consumed in the form of powder, extract, or juice. Amla is rich in vitamin C, which helps in boosting the immune system. It is one of the most commonly used herbs in Ayurveda because of its ability to strengthen the body's natural defenses. Amla has antibacterial, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, and anti-allergenic properties which help to maintain the integrity of the stomach lining and aid in digestion by stimulating the release of digestive enzymes.
Ginger
Ginger is a perennial plant that is native to South Asia and has been cultivated for thousands of years. The root of this plant has long been used as a spice and in medicine as it contains minerals, amino acids, enzymes, and coenzymes, all of which act together to prevent muscle spasms. If you want to incorporate ginger into your diet, a warm cup of ginger tea is the perfect way to reap the benefits of one of nature's greatest immune boosters. Ginger also contains gingerol, which is a compound that helps boost immunity by increasing the body's production of white blood cells.
