TODAY'S LEARNINGMagic Fat- Ghee

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Hippocrates is credited with saying this, but it definitely applies to ghee, which is a common component in traditional Indian dishes. Ayurveda, which is related to yoga, says that ghee can be used as nourishment, repair, and more. Ghee, which is basically butter that has been clarified, has a higher melting point for sautéing and a delicious taste. Ghee is great for yoga practitioners because it is sattvic, which means it is pure, balanced, and healthy.

Ghee helps to detoxify the body’s deep tissues, and it has been used for centuries as part of ayurvedic cleanses. The cells are both renewed and cleaned as a result. The founder of the Ayurvedic Institute, Dr. Vasant Lad, says that yoga practitioners should use ghee because it softens joint muscles and gets the body ready to stretch. Also, many nutrients are hard to take without fatty acids, and healing herbs are often put in ghee to make them easier to receive.

Beyond its health advantages, ghee has a lot of mystical connotations. In India, cows are thought of as holy. Krishna, the god of love, was a cowherd. Butter, which the cow generously gives to us, is revered as a divine present. And when fire turns butter into ghee, it becomes the physical version of ojas, the "life fluid." Ghee has been used for hundreds of years to light lamps, clean god statues called murtis, and feed fires used in ceremonies.

Besides, ghee is simply delicious. Few research on ghee have produced contradictory findings, which may worry people concerned about their lipid levels: Ghee is said to increase triglycerides or overall cholesterol, according to some, while fatty accumulation in blood vessels are not a result of using ghee, according to another. The second part fits with what ayurveda says, which is that ghee gets rid of toxins in the body. Even though views about the benefits of dietary fat change, people with too much kapha shouldn't eat too much ghee.

You can buy ready-made ghee at health food stores, but it's even better when you make it yourself, which isn't too hard. Click here for directions in full. You can cook with grease, of course. And panchakarma, the standard ayurvedic cleaning program, can't be done without ghee. It is usually done by trained practitioners during a retreat that lasts several days. But if you get breathing problems in the winter or your skin gets dry in the winter, you can easily add ghee to your daily routine to help. You can use it for nasya (to moisten your nose) or for abhyanga (to massage your face or body). (oleation and massage). Or you could start small by using ghee as a lip balm.

POSITIVE NEWS OF THE DAY

Zebra sharks are almost never seen in the wild parts of Indonesia. Overhunted, these striped bottom dwellers were in danger of going extinct.

Now, though, 44 zoos in 15 countries are working together to make a big program to breed sharks in captivity and then release them back into their natural waters. The goal of this program is to get 500 sharks back into their natural waters.

This has never been done before, and rewilding is usually only done with animals and other species that live on land.

Protecting sharks and rays in Indonesia's Raja Ampat, which has one of the best tropical marine settings known to humans, has already helped these ancient animals recover.

TIPS OF THE DAYGroup Meditation

Although practicing meditation can seem very private, there is actually unexpected power in groups.

"Collective energy is strong, and there's no doubt that meditating with a partner or in a class can make your experience stronger," says Candice Fairoth, a meditation and breathwork teacher in Los Angeles.

Not only does meditating with a friend help us get out of our own thought loops, but it also gives us responsibility that we wouldn't get if we did it on our own.

Fairoth says, "I think getting into a container with other people helps us get out of our heads and into the experience." "There's also a desire to show up more fully, knowing we're part of something bigger than ourselves."
