Moon Energy
New Moon: Reflection and Contemplation
The new moon is a dark, quiet time. The energy is lower, and the invitation is to slow down and feel. To feel our emotions and, ideally, express them to a trusted person, we require time and space. Around this time (the day before, the day of, or the day after the new moon), take some time for this ritual.
Get a candle lit. Shut your eyes and give thanks to the earth you dwell on. Visualize yourself surrounded by a protective circle that keeps out everything that doesn't advance your best interests.
Waxing Moon: Growing and Moving On
Energy is highest during the waxing moon. It is easier for us to proceed with our plans and objectives. Now is an excellent moment to go out and improve yourself. Light your candle during the first few days of the waxing moon, which is three to five days following the new moon. After establishing your protective circle, acknowledge the land.
Take some time to reflect on your future intents, plans, objectives, and wishes. Depending on where you are with your grieving, your goals might start small, like getting to bed around the same time every night, or you may pursue larger life goals.
Write down some actions that you could reasonably take during this moon cycle to move towards those goals. After that, extinguish your candle and express gratitude.
Full Moon: Harvest and Letting Go
Harvest is all about the full moon. It's a moment to reflect on our accomplishments and let go of things that no longer serve us. Spend some time performing this ceremony outside during the full moon (either the day before, the day of, or the day after).
Get your candle lit. Set your protective circle and show respect for the land. Answer the following questions in writing.
Is there anything you’re holding onto—a habit, a pattern, a negative thought—that you’re ready to let go of now? Remember that it's important to let go gradually. Just don't let go of anything if you're not ready to let go of it. The time will come.
Say "thank you" and blow out your candle.
Waning Moon: Integrating
Integration occurs with the declining moon. We reflect on what we've discovered and apply it. Light your candle whenever you sit down throughout this cycle, which runs from the day after the full moon to the day before the new moon. After establishing your circle of protection, acknowledge the land. Respond to the following inquiries in your journal:
What has changed, if anything, since the previous new moon?
How do you feel in your body right now as you reflect?

FOOD FOR THE SOUL
Ayurveda Recipes: Asparagus Saffron Risotto with Lemon
Saffron brings a healthy glow to the body after winter's gray. It is a nourishing purifier that invigorates and moves the blood while cooling it. Saffron's circulatory properties are useful in Pitta disorders with blood stagnation, including inflammation, arthritis, acne, and hepatitis. It improves eyesight and enhances digestion. Saffron's blood moving qualities are particularly desirable among herbs that stimulate the release of oxytocin, the "tend and befriend" hormone, supporting saffron's use as an aphrodisiac when combined with milk and ghee.
Ingredients
2 c ASPARAGUS
1/4 tsp BLACK PEPPER
1 tsp CUMIN
2 tbsp GHEE
1/4 whole LEMON
1 c RISOTTO / ARBORIO RICE
2 pinch SAFFRON
1/2 tsp SALT (MINERAL SALT)
Instructions
1. Grind saffron with a mortar and pestle. Place a few drops of water and continue grinding until saffron is completely dissolved. Let sit ten minutes.
2. Meanwhile, in a separate pot bring 1 quart of water to a boil and set aside.
3. Clean and dice asparagus.
4. Sautee the cumin seeds in ghee in a large pot.
5. Add risotto, asparagus and other ingredients to the cumin while the seeds are still aromatic, before they begin to brown. Sautee for an additional 30 seconds.
6. Add 1c of boiling water and lower heat to a simmer. Continue adding 1c of boiling water from the other pot every five minutes.
