TODAY'S LEARNING
Habits For 2024
1. Start focusing on what you already have.
It’s easy to focus on scarcity. To turn your focus toward what you currently don’t have in your life. A deficit can easily overcome us in this hypercommercialized, filtered, social media-dominated environment. However, as Oprah once stated, "Be grateful for what you have; you'll eventually have more." You will never, ever have enough if you focus on what you lack.
Abundance isn’t something you acquire. You pay attention to it. So, start noticing, focusing on, and truly appreciating what’s currently in your life. This year, I’m going to focus on the people I love, the fact that I’m healthy, and knowing that I’m in charge of where I steer my life.
2. Start using your imagination for creating.
The ability to imagine is strong. It can either show you the most catastrophic scenario or allow you to play, explore, and create in your mind. Your ability to imagine may either be your biggest asset or your worst obstacle when it comes to realizing your aspirations.
Employ it to build, not to destroy. Use it to stir faith, not doubt. Make the most of it by using it to improve both your life and the lives of people around you. Consider how happy you'll feel and all the people you could serve if you start your own business, for instance, rather than dwelling on all the things that could go wrong.
3. Start living in the now.
We frequently live in the past or present tense. Often, we’re so caught up in what took place or what might happen that we lose sight of what is happening. Begin to live in the present moment, where life truly happens.
Use your senses to become present: feeling, hearing, seeing, tasting, and touching. Embrace the work you're doing, regardless of how small it may appear.
When you’re washing the dishes, make that the most important thing in your life. Make conversing with someone the top priority in your life when you do so.
4. Start ignoring what others are doing.
It's simple to get into the comparison trap. To look at others and either judge, blame, or feel sorry for ourselves. However, we tend to our own gardens instead of concentrating on our neighbors' to have greener lawn.
Keep your behind-the-scenes activities separate from other people's highlights. Rather, make the decision to create, nurture, and invest in your life as a way to honor it. Just remember to stay in your lane.
5. Start being really honest with yourself.
The only way to change something is to first acknowledge what is. To look at the situation exactly as it is but not worse than it is. To look your fears, limitations, and blockages right in the eye.
What functions well and what doesn't? What do you want to do that scares the crap out of you? Acknowledge the things that are going well for you and then consider ways to make the things that aren't. The truth will, as they say, set you free. First of all, it may irritate or damage you.
6. Start putting better labels on things.
What glasses are you wearing? The optimistic, fearful, or I-cannot-do-this pair? Our perspective on the world determines how we perceive it. Being laid off can present both challenges and opportunities. A breakup may signal the end of a relationship or the start of a new one.
Give things labels that give you power. Transform a horrific experience into a gift, a challenging circumstance into an opportunity, and an ending into a fresh start. Take control of the narrative around you.
7. Start telling empowering stories.
Building on the previous point, notice what stories are currently running through your life. Maybe it’s about your parents, financial situation, or health condition. Our narratives shape who we are. Empowering stories create empowering situations.
