Quote of the day...

“If you feel anxiety or depression, you are not in the present. You are either anxiously projecting the future or depressed and stuck in the past. The only thing you have any control over is the present moment; simple breathing exercises can make us calm and present instantly.”

WEEKEND TEACHING
Easy, Heart-Opening Activities to Boost Your Optimism, Love, and Light

Exercise #1: The Love Wave

Close your eyes and spend a moment establishing a heart-to-heart connection with someone in your life who might benefit from a little love. Feel yourself giving them a big, cozy hug and smiling into their eyes.

Let the love come flowing in. Take a seat in this love. Allow it to intensify and encircle the two of you. After that, release it into the world to create a love wave. Recognize that you are always welcome to return to this sanctuary of unending love.

Exercise #2: The Gift of Giving

One day I was browsing in a bookstore when an old man approached me. He was dressed in a faded beige sweater and had snow-white hair. I was shocked when he gave me a chocolate rose and wished me a lovely day. Who was this man? Was he attempting to harm me? Was he hitting on me? I reluctantly took the chocolate rose and said, “Thank you.”

The clerk noticed my discomfort and told me that the man buys a dozen chocolate roses every day and hands them out to random strangers. I suddenly felt special.

This was a long time ago incident. Though my first impression of him was uneasy, I have pleasant memories of him. When he finally passed away the entire town mourned. There was a glowing write up in the local newspaper about him. He had brightened the days of countless residents with his gift of a chocolate rose.

This week, I'd like you to choose a day and give a present to everyone you meet. Though it can, it doesn't have to be a tangible gift. It could also be a complement, your entire attention, or a meaningful grin.

Never look for anything in return. Remember my reaction to the old man? You might not always be met with gratitude. Just practice the act of giving.

Upon finishing the day, take note of your feelings. You spent the day leaving heart prints everywhere you went. Did you feel happy about this? Is the joy within you or did you take it from the people you met?

Exercise #3: A Gratitude Nap

This exercise imprints you with the beauty of your life as it is now.

As you lie down, adjust yourself. Make use of as many blankets and pillows as you like.

Set a timer for three minutes.

Say aloud what you are thankful for throughout those three minutes. It can be challenging at first. Please know every item does not have to be deep. Be grateful for the couch you’re lying on, the length of your hair, sand on the beach. Everything is ok.

Make a conscious decision to be receptive to whatever comes your way once the three minutes are over. Surrender as much as you can.

Take ten minutes to relax. After the "nap," note your feelings. After basking in the glow of all the goodness in your life, I'm willing to bet you feel a lot lighter.
