TODAY'S LEARNING
Positive Mantras

Every day of our lives is different. Life is full of surprises, therefore we can never be certain how the day will turn out. The only thing we do have control over is the thoughts we choose to believe in. The mantras we live by. The mantras that help us when we're down and climb back up again.

These mantras are designed to encourage you to think positively and constructively when you decide to do so. So much of our life is dependent on our perception. Even while two people had the identical experience, their interpretations of it may differ greatly.

ZEN STORY
A Cup Of Tea

Nan-in, a Japanese master during the Meiji era (1868-1912), received a university professor who came to inquire about Zen.

Nan-in served tea. He poured his visitor’s cup full, and then kept on pouring.

The professor watched the overflow until he no longer could restrain himself. “It is overfull. No more will go in!”

“Like this cup,” Nan-in said, “you are full of your own opinions and speculations. How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your cup?”

YOGAPEDIA
Standing Head To Knee Pose (Dandayamana janu sirsasana)

What is Standing Head To Knee Pose?

Standing head to knee pose, or dandayamana janu sirsasana in Sanskrit, is a balancing standing posture. The yogi stands on one leg, opposite leg extended and the torso in a forward fold. It's a challenging pose to hold, and develops physical and mental equilibrium as well as strength and flexibility.

Instructions

  • Begin standing. Inhale and lift the right foot from the floor.

  • Hold the foot with both hands and bring the leg parallel to the floor.

  • Exhale and fold forward, bringing the head toward the knee.

  • Breathe while holding the pose.

  • Exhale and carefully release. Change sides.
