THE WEEKEND POSITIVE NEWS ROUNDUP1.  Turkish Firefighter Rescues Cat From Rubble and it Refuses to Leave His Side...

Cats have a bad reputation for being solitary, but one lucky cat who was trapped under rubble during the Turkish earthquakes will not let go of the person who saved him.

Cats are perhaps the most adored animals in Turkey, where the catastrophic earthquakes that rocked Gaziantep inflicted unimaginable damage.

A picture of a Turkish firefighter named Ali Cakas with a dusty cat on his shoulder went viral on social media. Cakas found the animal ten days after it had been buried in the rubble.

It wouldn't leave his side as he kept helping save people and animals with his fire department.

2. UK companies met their goals for gender equality...

A report released this week showed that the number of women in boardroom positions at publicly traded British companies has risen above 40% for the first time.

FTSE 350 companies were set a 2025 deadline to achieve the 40 percent target, which they hit three years early. A little more than 10 years ago, 152 of the 350 listed companies had no women at all on their boards.

However, there has been uneven progress. At the moment, only 33.5% of leadership positions below the board level are held by women.

"Reaching the 40% goal for women on boards early is something to be happy about," the report said. "It also shows that we can make more progress. Companies have been able to show their commitment to positive change and reap the benefits of a diverse workforce by having clear goals and good policies.

3. 29 Species Have Recovered Enough in Australia to be Taken Off the Endangered List...

A big project in Australia to study endangered species has found 29 recovered species.

Australia's Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act currently lists 446 species of animals that need protection, but 29 of them no longer do. This includes 15 mammals, 8 birds, 4 frogs, a reptile, and a fish.

Some of these animals are the golden, Western barred, and Eastern barred bandicoots, the Western quoll, the sooty albatross, the waterfall frog, the Flinder's Range worm-lizard, the yellow-footed rock wallabies, the greater bilby, the humpback whale, the growling grass frog, the Murray's cod, and others.

Australia has been a focus of efforts to save endangered species for decades, because so many of the animal species there can only be found there.

4. Solar power is taking over...

It's hard to believe now, but not too long ago, the idea of using the sun to power your home was kind of weird. Many people didn't take solar power as a serious source of energy.

How different things are now. In a report released this week, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said that by 2027, solar energy will be the world's main source of electricity. Ten years ago, it only made up 1% of the world's electricity.

Due to the energy crisis, the report also said that by 2027, the amount of renewable energy would have grown by 30% more than the IEA had predicted last year.

"In the next five years, the world will add as much renewable power as it did in the previous 20," said Fatih Birol, the executive director of the IEA. "This is a clear example of how the current energy crisis can be a historic turning point toward a cleaner and safer energy system."
