THE WEEKEND POSITIVE NEWS ROUNDUP1. Good News For Our Oceans...

After more than 20 years of talks, UN member states have made a historic promise to protect the world's seas.

The High Seas Treaty, which is legally binding, was signed by almost 200 countries. Its goal is to protect 30% of the world's seas that are outside of state borders.

Just over 1.2% of foreign seas are protected right now, and most of them are in danger because of overfishing and climate change.

On Saturday, Rena Lee, head of the UN's Intergovernmental Conference on Marine Biodiversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction, beat back tears as she said, "The ship has reached the shore." The crowd stood up and gave her a standing applause.

Greenpeace said that the signing of the deal was a "historic day for conservation."

2. 25 Year old uses waste to build a wind machine...

In the wild northwest of Lebanon, in the governate of Akkar, a literature student taught himself engineering so that he could build a wind machine on the roof of his grandmother's house.

Solar panels are everywhere in the area because getting energy from the government is more of a nice idea than a daily reality.

But Mohamad Sabsabi, who is 25 years old, used old water drums, steel bars, and a cart wheel to make a wind machine that uses the wind when the sun is hidden by clouds.

3. America is going green...

The US government has announced a $6.3bn (£5.3bn) plan to clean up the environment. This is the biggest investment in reducing carbon emissions from industry in US history.

The "industrial demonstrations program" of the Department of Energy will give funds to projects that cut emissions in energy-intensive and high-emitting businesses like iron, steel, cement, and concrete.

President Joe Biden's groundbreaking Inflation Reduction Act pays for the program. The act promised to spend $369 billion (£310 billion) on clean energy and climate action projects.

Jennifer Granholm, the US Secretary of Energy, said, "Today's announcement is another exciting step in the race to fully decarbonize our heavy industries. It will help reduce harmful pollution and make sure America's manufacturing sector is strong and competitive."

4. Grumpy Pallas Cats...

Since people first heard about the original "Grumpy Cat," the Pallas cat has won their hearts. They are about the size and shape of a small, thick-furred house cat. Like all cats, they are great hunters, and where they live depends on how many pikas and voles they can find.

Anyone who knows cats will tell you that their faces always look angry. Some people might call this a "resting b**ch face." I think the OG Grumpy cat, who lives in secret and frowns at mountain hikers who don't know about him, has won my heart.

I think these animals would rather be left alone because they are hard to find, shy, and can live in areas where there are more people without being seen. If the Pallas Cats of Everest are well taken care of, they will be able to live there forever.

YOGAPEDIACompass Pose (Parivrtta Surya Yantrasana)

Benefits:

Compass is a great pose for yoga experts who want to keep getting more flexible in their hips, hamstrings, and shoulders. By keeping and growing hip and hamstring flexibility, you can improve your general agility. This makes daily tasks like squatting down easier to do.

How To:

Sit in a comfortable, cross-legged position.

Breathe in and bend your right knee, hugging it into your chest. You may leave your left leg bent or straighten it in front of you.

Lift your right leg with your left hand. Thread your right arm underneath your right knee, bringing the right fingertips to the floor outside of your right hip.

Breathe slowly and steadily as you focus on sitting tall, lengthening your spine and staying upright as you move into this position.

Use your left hand to position your right knee as high up on the right arm as possible. The goal is to get the right knee to align behind the right shoulder with your right leg straight.

Bring your left hand to the outside edge of your right foot.

Begin to straighten your right leg as you stretch your left arm back behind your head.

Look up toward your left arm, keeping your spine upright.

Take three to five deep breaths here as you hold the pose.

Release the pose carefully, exhaling as you guide your right leg back down slowly with your left hand before repeating to the other side.

LEARN SANSKRITLila (lee-lah)

A Sanskrit term with many translations and uses, Lila is most commonly understood to mean “play”, “amusement” and “spontaneity”.

This is not just any play, but “divine play”. The concept of lila is used to describe the creation of the universe by the gods, who did so in a spirit of spontaneity and play, sport rather than necessity or self-conscious goals.
