THE WEEKEND POSITIVE NEWS ROUNDUP1.  The rainforests of Britain might thrive again...

Readers may be surprised to find that Britain has temperate rainforests, but remnants of these ecosystems can still be found along the Atlantic coast, and this week a project was launched to expand them.

Thanks to a £38 million grant from the insurance company Aviva, the Wildlife Trusts, a conservation nonprofit, launched a 100-year plan on Wednesday to safeguard and expand Britain's temperate rainforests.

Hundreds of years ago, all along Britain's Atlantic coast, woods developed; today, fewer than 1% of the island is covered by trees. They serve as crucial carbon sinks, are pillars of biodiversity, and are breathtaking. It is clear that restoring them is the best course of action as the environmental and climatic challenges worsen.

According to Craig Bennett, CEO of The Wildlife Trusts, "these forests are wonderful and cherished by people who visit and live nearby." We're eager to collaborate with locals to restore rainforests along the Atlantic coast.

2. Man Hurries Along Snowy 4-Lane Highway to Stop Woman's Fleeing Car...

Thanks to Adolfo Molina's presence, a Massachusetts lady who passed out while driving on the highway may thank her luck.

The tall and powerful Dominican sprinted across a 4-lane highway in the snow to try and stop her car as it brushed against the guardrails while continuing to accelerate on the shoulder of the road.

Molina tried to slow the car down by grasping the door handles, and a neighboring driver videotaped the rescue attempt and posted it on TikTok, where it quickly went viral.

3. Baby seals spotted in record numbers on Norfolk coast...

A record number of baby seals have been spotted on a five-mile stretch off the coast in Norfolk.

3796 seal pups have been born this winter, and volunteers have spotted 1169 adults.

This is almost double the count during the winter of 2019-2020

4. Alaskan forests get some protection...

In the biggest preserved temperate rainforest in the world, the US government has decided to reestablish limitations on logging and road construction.

Tongass National Park in Alaska, which covers 17 million acres, lost all of its protections under the Trump administration. Native Americans' ancient homeland is the wilderness, which also serves as a haven for animals like grizzly bears and bald eagles.

"This is fantastic news for the forest, the salmon, the animals, and the people whose ways of life and livelihoods depend on intact ecosystems," said Kate Glover, a senior attorney for the environmental legal firm Earthjustice.

The decision, according to Alaska's Republican governor Mike Dunleavy, stifled regional economic potential.
