THE WEEKEND POSITIVE NEWS ROUNDUP1. The Amazon rainforest is getting protected...

When President "Lula" da Silva took office in Brazil this year, many environmental and indigenous rights groups hoped he would keep his campaign promises to protect the Amazon jungle and the people who live there.

Nearly four months into his term, there are early signs that Lula was telling the truth. For example, Brazilian police have kicked out dozens of illegal gold miners from the Yanomami Reserve, which is the size of Portugal and is home to about 35,000 people.

About half of the country's exports are made up of gold that was mined illegally, and a new section of the federal police called Environment of the Amazon is looking for help from other countries to build a good system to track the money and sales from illegal gold mining.

Reuters says that so far, the new section has gotten rid of almost all of the miners in the area. They have also helped destroy 250 mining camps and 70 low-tech boats used for digging. 48 planes and helicopters that could have been used to sneak the gold out of the reserve have also been taken.

2. London is introducing some new furry friends...

The return of a long-lost species will make London, the world's first national park city!

This week, it was reported that beavers will be set free in Ealing later this year thanks to money from the mayor. This shows that rewilding is not just a country activity. Since more than 400 years ago, animals have not lived in the city.

"Beavers are a keystone species," said Dr. Sean McCormack, who is in charge of the project as chair of the Ealing Wildlife Group. "Their activities can help fight and adapt to the effects of climate change by capturing carbon, reducing the risk of flooding, and making the land hold more water to reduce the effects of drought."

It will be the first time in the UK that beavers are brought back to a city. The animals are widely expected to colonize London in the coming years on their own steam, with populations advancing to the capital from Kent.

3. 17 year old find a unique way to diagnose pediatric heart disease...

Ellen Xu, who is 17 years old, used a type of artificial intelligence (AI) to make the first test for a rare disease that her sister had years ago. She did this for the oldest and most prestigious young adult science competition in the country.

With the help of her own story, she was able to get 85% of the correct findings with just a smartphone picture, earning her the third-place prize of $150,000.

The only way to test for Kawasaki disease is for a doctor to have years of training, the skill to study, and a little bit of luck.

4. There has been a global ‘surge in benevolence’...

Even though the pandemic has claimed the lives of millions of people, caused economic chaos, and led to strict lockdowns, the new World Happiness Report says it has led to "a surge in generosity."

It seems to show that, despite the problems caused by Covid, worldwide happiness has stayed high and charity has grown.

Prof. Lara Aknin, who runs the Happiness Lab at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada, said, "For the second year in a row, we see that everyday acts of kindness like helping a stranger, giving to charity, and volunteering are higher than they were before the pandemic."

People have different ideas about what makes them happy, which makes it hard to measure world happiness. Researchers talked to tens of thousands of happy people to try to figure out what makes them happy. They found that happiness was mostly caused by social support, a good life expectancy, the economy, the freedom to make life choices, and not being corrupted.

This year’s edition once again ranked Finland the world’s happiest nation, followed by Denmark and Iceland.

YOGAPEDIAPose Of The Day

Vajra in Sanskrit means "diamond," which is why this pose is often referred to as the "Diamond Pose." When you practice this pose, it keeps your mind calm, improves concentration, and makes your body as strong as the "Vajra." To begin, get down on the floor on your knee. Get your knees, toes, and ankles to touch the ground and align with each other. Rest your buttocks on your heels as they touch. Now, rest your hands on your knees. Get your back straight. Close your eyes, look straight in front of you, and then take a deep breath and relax.

DID YOU KNOW?

The black walls and dimmed lights of the practice room are designed to bring a hushed calm to students. Also, the lack of mirrors is intended to allow students to journey inward rather than focus outward, explains Alexander. The décor at the studio includes crystal singing bowls, each with a different frequency to align the various chakras. At home, you can find a 40 Hz playlist, turn your favorite music down low, or consider silence. Just let yourself be
