TODAY'S LEARNING
Purify The Mind: Use Conscious Breathing

According to a well-known saying from Sanskrit, "For breath is life, and if you breathe well, you will live long on Earth." We breathe 17,000–30,000 times a day, but because it comes so naturally, we probably wouldn't be aware of it.

However, when we practice yoga, the breath is a crucial aspect of our routine, and we are encouraged to pay attention to the physiological process that keeps us alive. Whether used alone or in conjunction with asanas, conscious breathing helps us to connect with our inner energy and has numerous great effects on our body, mind, and soul.

Examples of Breathing Methods

To help purify the mind and body and support our practice, there are a number of exercises, asanas, and pranayama techniques that can be performed on their own or in conjunction with asanas. The next time you lay down your yoga mat, try integrating these easy strategies.

Exhaling: Some of the most popular forward bending asanas, such as Uttanasana (standing front bend) and adho mukha svanasana (downward-facing dog posture), are excellent opportunities to cleanse the body by exhaling carbon dioxide from the lungs. Exhaling deeply helps the torso become more compact, and it can also help you deepen your front folds.

Inhaling: Heart-opening asanas, such dhanurasana (bow pose) or ustrasana (camel pose), open the chest to create more space for the lungs to fill with oxygen. We typically feel more energised following a sequence of heart-opening postures that include deep inhalations. To concentrate more on the breath, these postures can be practiced alone or as an addition to a longer practice.

Kapalabhati Breathing: Pranayama techniques, such as kapalabhati (skull shining breath), are typically practiced sitting on the floor with an erect spine. A quick breathing method called kapalabhati aids in expelling stagnant air from the lungs. Like blowing out a candle, the mouth expels short, quick breaths through a small opening in the mouth while the belly snaps inward toward the navel. Try ending your practice with this revitalizing breathing technique if you're feeling low on energy; you'll feel genuinely rejuvenated.

POSITIVE NEWS OF THE DAY

In response to continuing worries about the melting of Alpine glaciers, voters in Switzerland supported a referendum on a new climate law.

The Swiss government’s Climate Protection Targets, Innovation and Strengthening Energy Security Act will incentivise the switch from oil and gas to green energy, and cut greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050.

The measure was approved by the Swiss parliament last year, but after opposition from the right-wing Swiss People's Party, it was put to a referendum.

The proposals, which commit 2 billion Swiss Francs (£1.7 billion) to promote the energy transition over the following ten years, were supported by 59% of voters.

Swiss glaciers, meanwhile, experienced unprecedented melting last year and have lost a third of their ice mass during the previous two decades.

CRYSTAL OF THE DAY

LEARN SANSKRIT
Sutra (soo -thrah)

Hinduism and Buddhism both have short verses or scriptures called sutras. Sutra means "note," "sacred thread," or "code" in Sanskrit. Sutras are frequently cited during meditation and chanting. The sutras serve as a manual for life for many people who practice spiritual yoga.

MANTRA OF THE WEEK
Green Tara Mantra

This mantra helps the chanter to overcome physical, emotional, mental and relationship blocks. The Green Tara figure is called upon to offer assistance. The only thing required is for the chanter not to cling to any one outcome; the more detached and non-grasping we can be, the happier we become. Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha Om: I invoke the Universal sound Tare: And the Green Tara Tuttare: To bring deliverance from suffering and delusion Ture: Paving the way for compassion and Enlightenment Soha: I offer this prayer to Green Tara.
