Seasonal Self-Care
Adjusting Your Routine Throughout the Year...
TOGETHER WITH:
Hello
Thought of the day...
The most profound act of courage is sometimes the gentlest one—choosing to tend to yourself with the same care and attention you so readily give to others. Remember that self-care isn't selfish; it's the essential foundation that allows your compassion to flourish without depleting you. Today, honor one small need within yourself that you've been postponing, and watch how that single act of self-respect ripples outward, touching everything else you do with renewed clarity and presence.

TODAY'S LEARNING
Seasonal Self-Care: Adjusting Your Routine Throughout the Year
Just as nature transforms with each season, our self-care needs evolve throughout the year. By aligning our wellness practices with seasonal changes, we can create more responsive and sustainable self-care routines.
Spring: Embrace Renewal
Spring invites fresh starts and new growth. Incorporate these practices:
Open windows to refresh your living space
Add more leafy greens to your diet
Take short walks to observe nature awakening
Declutter one small area each week
Summer: Celebrate Abundance
Summer's longer days and vibrant energy call for:
Starting your day earlier to enjoy morning light
Staying hydrated with fruit-infused water
Taking short breaks outdoors between tasks
Creating boundaries around work to enjoy evening daylight
Fall: Honor Transition
As leaves change color, embrace:
Establishing comforting evening rituals as darkness comes earlier
Adding warming spices like cinnamon and ginger to meals
Practicing gratitude for the year's experiences so far
Letting go of habits or commitments that no longer serve you
Winter: Value Rest
Winter's natural dormancy reminds us to:
Prioritize sleep and allow yourself to rest more
Nourish with warming soups and teas
Create a cozy environment with soft lighting and textures
Set boundaries around social obligations
By tuning into nature's rhythms, we learn that different phases require different forms of nurturing. This seasonal approach teaches us flexibility and helps us develop a more intuitive relationship with our self-care needs, leading to more sustainable wellness practices year-round.

TODAY'S POSITIVE NEWS
NIH to Work with Food Companies to Get Harmful Synthetic Food Dyes, Approved for Decades, Out of US Grocery Stores
The US National Institute of Health, in collaboration with the FDA, has announced a major initiative to eliminate six synthetic food dyes (Red 40, Yellow 5, Blue 1, Blue 2, Citrus Red 2, and Orange B) from food products by the end of 2026. This effort, part of a White House mandate addressing America's obesity and chronic disease epidemic, targets dyes linked to hyperactivity, mood disruption, diabetes, obesity, and cancer in children. The FDA will also push for elimination of Red 3 a year earlier than previously ordered under the Biden Administration. Unlike synthetic dyes which offer no nutritional value and merely enhance visual appeal in ultra-processed foods like Kellogg's Froot Loops, Europe already uses natural alternatives such as turmeric, spirulina, and carotenoids. The FDA has committed to quickly authorizing these natural colorings, including butterfly pea flower which has been used in Chinese herbal teas for centuries. The initiative will also impact synthetic dyes found in children's medicine, multi-vitamins, toothpaste, and cough syrup.
ZEN STORY
Christian Buddha
One of master Gasan's monks visited the university in Tokyo. When he returned, he asked the master if he had ever read the Christian Bible. "No," Gasan replied, "Please read some of it to me." The monk opened the Bible to the Sermon on the Mount in St. Matthew, and began reading. After reading Christ's words about the lilies in the field, he paused. Master Gasan was silent for a long time. "Yes," he finally said, "Whoever uttered these words is an enlightened being. What you have read to me is the essence of everything I have been trying to teach you here!"

YOGAPEDIA
Arrow Lunge (Anjaneyasana)

What is Arrow Lunge?
Arrow lunge is a variation of anjaneyasana, or low lunge. It's particular to the Forrest Yoga tradition. Rather than balancing on the ball of the back foot, it's the back of the back foot that presses toward the floor. The pose gives a deep hip stretch and develops balance.
Instructions
Begin in a low lunge with the left leg forward. Keep the fingertips on the floor.
Slide the right knee back so that it's behind the right hip. Make sure that the right foot points straight back.
Press into both feet and lift the right knee from the floor.
Engage the legs to keep a lift in the lower body.
Slowly lift the hands from the floor and reach them overhead. Breathe while holding the pose. Exhale and release. Change sides.
