YOGA GURUSMaharishi Mahesh Yogi (1918 – 2008)
Last Known Age: 90 years oldCountry of Origin: Jabalpur, IndiaAbout: Little is known of the Maharishi’s early life. He studied physics at the University of Allahābād and worked for a time in factories. He later left for the Himalayas, where for 13 years he studied under Guru Dev, the founder of TM (Transcendental Meditation). When Guru Dev died in 1952, the Maharishi organized a movement to spread the teachings of TM throughout the world; his first world tour took place in 1959 and brought him to the United States.
TM is a type of meditation, practiced twice a day, in which the subject mentally recites a special mantra (sacred sound or phrase). Concentration on repeated utterances decreases mental activity, and as a result, the subject is expected to reach a higher state of consciousness. The movement grew slowly until the late 1960s, when the Beatles, an English rock-music group, and numerous other celebrities began to join his following. Since then, many have left the movement, but TM remains a popular form of relaxation, especially in the United States. The principles of transcendental meditation are discussed in the Maharishi’s books The Science of Being and Art of Living (1963) and Meditations of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (1968).

POSITIVE NEWS OF THE DAY
This week, The Home Depot said that it will spend an extra $1 billion to give its hourly workers higher wages.
All hourly frontline workers who have been there for a long time have already started getting their raises. They will also help anyone who just got a new job at the chain hardware store by raising starting wages to at least $15 per hour in every U.S. market.
The new wages started on February 6, so some people's February 17 paychecks already showed the new rates. This week, the raise will be added to the paychecks of all the remaining employees.

DID YOU KNOW?
Ayurveda uses the system of 'Astavidha rogi pareeksha' or eight methods to examine a patient. This includes testing the following factors Naadi (Pulse), Mutra (Urine), Mala (stool), Shabda (voice), Jivha(tongue), Sparsha (skin), Drik (Eyes), and Aakriti (body build). After the doctor has understood the type of body you have and the problem you might be suffering from, he/she will try to understand which humour could be imbalanced and thereby prescribe medication.
