5 Ways to Add Play to Your Day and Spark Creativity

1. Whole Body Energy Boosts

If my mind and mood are lagging, I’ll stand up and do a series of quick-hit movements. Burpees, squats, and jumping jacks are my favourite exercises. I perform 15 to 20 repetitions to get my mind going. Plank holds work well too. Known as "exercise snacking," these spurts often last anywhere from ten to thirty minutes. However, my 30-second abbreviations are just the jolt I need to foster creativity in the moment.

2. Parties Above The Keyboard

I find that music naturally elevates my mood and stimulates my mind. When my creative juices aren't flowing as they should, I'll go through my favorite music, put on my headphones, put my hands on the keyboard, and wait for the inspiration to strike. Hips swing, shoulders sway, and speech flows a little more naturally. These are what I refer to as "Above the Keyboard Dance Parties," but they don't have to take place at the keyboard; they may happen anywhere! You are welcome to get up and start dancing about the space to spark your imagination. More spontaneity is preferable.

3. Natural Pauses

I also take pauses during the day to go outside and play. Though this type of play is often much less active. Daily time in nature is recommended by Ayurveda as a means of healing. That healing applies to the creative process as well. I'll take a pen and journal, go outside onto my lanai, and observe the birds and butterflies interacting with the breeze rustling the palm fronds. Nature inspires and nurtures us. I shut my eyes, unwind for a while, and then I let the ideas flow.

Alternatively, I grab my dog and go for a little playdate or stroll while completely cut off from technology, appreciating little things that I might otherwise overlook. I’ll watch her sniff around, and just enjoy her enjoying nature. When I return inside, I usually feel rejuvenated and have a fresh idea or two.

4. Allotted Time for Daydreaming

It may be argued that arranging time has nothing to do with creativity or play. All bets are off, though, when that designated hour is actually dream time. Actually, it's becoming popular knowledge that daydreaming, or "doing nothing," fosters creativity. Feels contrary to the way the world works, right? You put in more effort, it builds, and eventually you generate more. Not always. Your brain may explore creatively and discover new things when you give it enough time and room to play. Outside-the-box creativity flourishes in the space between. It's worth scheduling some time on the schedule to daydream, no matter how little. I either set out five to ten minutes each day to daydream or I daydream while working out. Daydreaming is facilitated by movement.

5. Roll On The Floor Laughing

Well, not literally. But I need to laugh to create. If that sounds funny (pun intended), it is. Nonsensical memes, videos of dogs wearing sunglasses and glamorous outfits, giggle baby reels on repeat–give me all of it and then some!

If I haven't laughed throughout the day, I become aware of it. It has a detrimental effect on my inventiveness. A belly-busting laugh has the ability to raise and spread, providing energy for each endeavor I work on. It's true that laughter fosters creativity and is contagious. If I haven’t had my daily dose of laughter, I’ll make it! For instance, I might SMS a friend or member of my family an absurd, weird emoji and see what they have to say. It encourages more play and facilitates the flow of ideas.

Today's Deal: Get 95% OFF - Reflexology Bundle

About: Find out how to give the healing touch! Reflexology is a safe and gentle therapy that combats stress, boosts the immune system, and stimulates our natural healing processes. From zone maps of the hands and feet to techniques for working the reflex points to illustrated step-by-step sequences, this bundle provides all the information necessary for treating the whole body.

Today, we can say that reflexology is ideal for not only curing pain (which is a primary symptom showing something is amiss in your body) but also the root cause of the pain. It is little wonder then that reflexology therapy has become very popular as a form of holistic healing, unlike pharmaceutical drugs that mostly address only the symptoms. High stress, chronic fatigue, back pain, and fibromyalgia are only a few examples of unwelcome conditions that can easily be alleviated through the practice of reflexology. Not to mention that reflexology is a great form of disorder prevention too!

Providing detailed and accurate anatomical drawings, zone and reflex maps, and muscle tables, the bundle outlines each body system, explaining how, when, and why to work the reflexes. It explores foot reflexology, hand reflexology, as well as meridian therapy and offers extensive basic pathology of all body systems, including case studies, allowing the student to develop interpretive diagnostic and treatment planning skills. This is the most complete reflexology study bundle available online!

CRYSTAL OF THE DAY

TIP OF THE DAY

When you’ve been hurt by someone you have a relationship with, some gentle boundary setting may be in order. But that doesn’t mean calling people out, blaming them, or disowning them. Learn how to simply say, ‘What you just did is not OK.’”

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

In the end, what truly matters is the love you give and the kindness you show. It’s not about what you have, but how you make people feel.
