HOW TO:
Start With Gratitude

Being in a grateful state, which is called gratitude, has the capacity to alter our life. I've discovered that practising gratitude makes me happier, therefore I try to do it more often. I have no doubt that taking a few minutes each day to bask in that feeling of gratitude enhances my sense of satisfaction and fulfilment in life.

Prepares You for Seva

By cultivating an attitude of gratitude, we inevitably become more unselfish and less egotistical. As it happens, practising seva (selfless service) is one of the fundamental goals of yoga. The more appreciative we are, the more likely we are to temporarily put aside our own ambitions and aspirations in order to go out into the world and assist others in achieving their own objectives.

Enhances Physical Well-being

We can also observe the strength of gratitude's physical effects. The more grateful we are, the more healthy we are. We experience less stress and go to the doctor less frequently. We get better sleep, which makes us feel upbeat and energetic when we're up. When we're feeling grateful, we're more likely to move our bodies and exercise, and we even have a tendency to live longer.

Increases Emotional IQ

Numerous research in the field of self-improvement demonstrate that regular thankfulness practises lead to increased resilience. Being grateful helps us cope. It aids in our ability to recover after setbacks. In fact, when things are difficult, we can be thankful that "this, too, shall pass," and that we are merely strengthening our character through hardship. There is always a bright side to things and something to be thankful for. If we make being grateful a habit, it will come to us more easily when we most need it.

Another emotional benefit of gratitude is its power to reduce feelings of jealousy and envy.

How to Develop Your Gratitude:

Gratitude Journaling

Set aside a short period of time each morning to list three to five things, persons, or circumstances for which you are currently grateful. No matter what, there is always something to be thankful for. It might be something as basic as the roof over your head or the sun beaming in the sky today; alternatively, it might be a close friend in whom you can confide whenever you need to.

The Gratitude Jar

Why not place a gratitude jar on your desk or night table if journaling grows boring and you need a fresh approach to practise? Put a slip of paper with your gratitude on it in the jar each time something positive occurs in your life.

POSITIVE NEWS OF THE DAY

According to data by NGO Global Energy Monitor (GEM), China is on track to achieve its renewable energy targets five years ahead of schedule.

By 2025, the country will have tripled its wind and solar power production capacity and generate 1,200 GW, well above the 2030 target set by President Xi Jinping three years ago.

Additionally, according to GEM, China has more installed solar capacity than the rest of the world combined, reaching 228GW, and its installed wind capacity has increased by 100GW since 2017, reaching 310GW.

DID YOU KNOW?

A 2014 study published in the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology found that gratitude increased athlete’s self-esteem, which is an essential component to optimal performance. Other studies have shown that gratitude reduces social comparisons. Rather than becoming resentful toward people who have more money or better jobs – which is a major factor in reduced self-esteem – grateful people are able to appreciate other people’s accomplishments.

Elbow Stand (Sayanasana)

What is Elbow Stand?

Elbow stand, or sayanasana in Sanskrit, is an advanced balancing inversion. From peacock pose, the yogi lifts their hands to balance on the elbows. The pose strengthens the arms and core and energizes the mind.

Instructions

Begin in peacock pose and find steady balance.

Carefully lift one hand from the floor and cup it against the cheek.

Do the same with the other hand.

Balance for a moment or as long as possible.

Exhale and drop the legs and forearms down into a forearm plank.
