WEEKEND LEARNING
Tips On How To Overcome Self-Doubt

1. Talk to yourself like a friend

Imagine if a friend of yours was going through what you are. All those questions and words, some quite harsh, that you know any friend doesn’t deserve. Consider the advice you would give them.

Put yourself in their shoes. Engage in conversation. Try to identify the points that are valid and the ones that will only cause trouble. Determine which issues you can address and which ones won't resolve themselves.

Have self-compassion. Recall that you are the only one who needs to constantly have faith in yourself. It is hard to go through this phase, there is no denying it, but you don’t have to be hard on yourself too.

You are worthy just as you are. Affirm positive statements like:

- I'm able to do this.

- Everything is under control

- I am worthy as I am

- I have confidence in myself

- I am competent

2. Realize that it’s normal and potentially beneficial

It's unlikely that every idea you have will come to pass. Not every fear is a prediction. Even the strongest among us experience things like these.

Consider it a form of assessment, a way to determine whether something is genuinely important to you and your willingness to pursue and work toward it. For example, if you doubt your abilities at your job, then seek out ways to remove that insecurity.

Maybe you can give extra time to learn, receive feedback from more experienced people, challenge yourself in areas that are not so easy for you. Make every effort to learn from this.

3. Stop yourself when it becomes toxic

It is beneficial only to the point where it helps us move forward or where we need to be. When it manifests as self-defeating behavior that undermines our confidence, we need to take action to overcome it.

It's harmful to compare yourself to other people all the time. If you’re measuring your worth based on someone else’s achievements, it’s unhealthy. Being inspired by someone promotes learning. Making comparisons to denigrate oneself results in deterioration.

4. Remember your past achievements

If you are not where you want to be right now, think back to the moments when you shone and succeeded in reaching your objectives.

It will take place once more. There are no uphill or downward slopes in life. It combines the two. In the moments when it seems that you don’t have it in you, remind yourself of how you felt when your heart was beaming with joy.

Have faith in yourself. You are capable of succeeding. You'll get past this; it just might take a bit more time and effort.
