TODAY'S LEARNING
The Power of Reflection: Writing Your Year in Review
As the New Year approaches, many of us feel compelled to set fresh goals or resolutions. But before moving forward, one of the most powerful things you can do for your well-being is to pause and look back. Taking time to reflect on the past year—your wins, losses, lessons, and pivotal moments—can provide clarity, foster gratitude, and set the stage for more meaningful progress.
Why Reflection Matters
Clarity on Growth: When you note how far you’ve come, even small improvements feel significant.
Shift in Perspective: Writing down challenges can help you see them as lessons rather than failures.
Foundation for Future Goals: Understanding the past makes it easier to set realistic and aligned intentions for the year ahead.
How to Write Your Year in Review
Set Aside Quiet Time
Find a calm space where you won’t be disturbed. Turn off notifications and give yourself the mental whitespace to focus.Use Guiding Questions
What was one achievement you’re most proud of?
What challenges did you face, and how did you handle them?
What moments brought you the most joy or fulfillment?
What did you learn about yourself?
Focus on Feelings and Insights
Go beyond listing events. Write about how experiences made you feel—this emotional insight can uncover what truly matters to you.Identify Themes
Look for recurring patterns—maybe you repeatedly chose curiosity over fear, or you realized that investing in relationships was a game-changer. These themes often hint at deeper values or priorities.Conclude with Gratitude
End your reflection by noting three things you’re grateful for—people, experiences, or even lessons. This gratitude practice helps shift the focus to positivity and abundance.
Moving Forward
Reflection isn’t just a look backward; it’s a springboard for what comes next. By writing down your experiences and discoveries, you give yourself a clearer roadmap into the New Year—one anchored in self-awareness and genuine intention.
As you close the chapter on this year, remember that every step—triumphs and trials alike—has shaped who you are today. Embrace the wisdom gained, celebrate your growth, and step into the New Year with renewed purpose.

ZEN STORY
Arresting the Stone Buddha
A merchant bearing fifty rolls of cotton goods on his shoulders stopped to rest from the heat of the day beneath a shelter where a large stone Buddha was standing. There he fell asleep, and when he awoke his goods had disappeared. He immediately reported the matter to the police. A judge named O-oka opened court to investigate. “That stone Buddha must have stolen the goods,” concluded the judge. “He is supposed to care for the welfare of the people, but he has failed to perform his holy duty. Arrest him.” The police arrested the stone Buddha and carried it into the court.
A noisy crowd followed the statue, curious to learn what kind of sentence the judge was about to impose. When O-oka appeared on the bench he rebuked the boisterous audience. “What right have you people to appear before the court laughing and joking in this manner? You are in contempt of court and subject to a fine and imprisonment.” The people hastened to apologise. “I shall have to impose a fine on you,” said the judge, “but I will remit it provided each one of you brings one roll of cotton goods to the court within three days. Anyone failing to do this will be arrested.” One of the rolls of cloth which the people brought was quickly recognised by the merchant as his own, and thus the thief was easily discovered. The merchant recovered his goods, and the cotton rolls were returned to the people.

YOGAPEDIA
Extended Side Angle Pose (Utthita Parsvakonasana)

What is Extended Side Angle Pose?
Extended side angle pose, or utthita parsvakonasana in Sanskrit, is a standing pose that's often sequenced in between warrior poses. From warrior two, the yogi leans their torso toward their bent leg and reaches their arm in line with the torso. The pose provides a deep stretch to the groin and hamstrings.
Instructions
Begin in warrior two with the right leg bent.
Exhale and lean the torso to the right. Rest the right forearm on the right thigh and reach the left arm overhead.
To deepen the pose, exhale and lower the right fingertips to the floor. Stretch the left arm alongside the ear so that it's in line with the torso.
Breathe while holding the pose. Inhale and return to warrior two. Change sides and repeat.
