What is Prayer Twist?
Prayer twist, or namaskar parsvakonasana in Sanskrit, is a challenging standing twist and variation of revolved side angle pose. Instead of the bottom hand on the floor and the top hand reaching toward the sky, the palms press together while the bottom arm provides leverage against the thigh. The pose builds strength and flexibility.
Instructions
Begin in side angle pose with the right leg forward.
Exhale and twist the torso to the right, resting the left upper arm on the right thigh.
Inhale and press the palms together, twisting further to the right.
Breathe while holding the pose.
On the next inhale, untwist and rise to standing.
Come into side angle pose with the left leg forward.
Exhale and twist the torso to the left, resting the right upper arm on the left thigh.
Inhale and press the palms together, twisting further to the left.
Breathe while holding the pose.
