What is Trauma?

Trauma is an emotional response to a terrible event. It may involve the psychological and physiological repercussions of extreme stress, such as terror or helplessness. A car accident, a natural disaster, abuse, an assault, violence, bodily harm, or other potentially fatal events can all result in trauma. A victim of trauma may experience sadness, anxiety, nightmares, flashbacks, and concentration problems.

Strategies for Trauma Recovery

The following techniques can assist you or a loved one in overcoming trauma:

1. Get Closer to Family and Friends

With trauma, it's normal to desire to isolate yourself from friends and family. Disconnecting from them and avoiding them, though, could make things worse for you and send you into depression. As a result, make an effort to communicate your problems and spend time with your loved ones.

2. Take Time Out

It's common to experience exhaustion when dealing with trauma. You could think you don't have enough energy to get things done every day. By then, you can accelerate your recovery by stepping away from your routine and giving yourself some time to rest.

3. Join a Support Group

Acquiring and receiving assistance is crucial for your recovery since it enables you to communicate your ideas and emotions. Sharing your circumstances with others might also teach you new coping mechanisms.

So, identify a support group, a trusted family member, a colleague, or a professional therapist and speak your issue out.

4. Observe Your Physical Health

Just as much as you may wish to invest in your mental health, you should also invest in your physical health. Your level of physical fitness has a big impact on your mental health.

Take care of your health by eating well, sleeping well, and exercising. For enhancing mood and reducing anxiety, gentle stretches, deep breathing, and walking are recommended.

5. Avoid Self-Criticism and Judgment

The things that you have gone through are not your fault. Thus, don't let what occurred to you cause you to feel guilty or ashamed. Rather, maintain a positive outlook and concentrate on making progress.

Although experiencing anger or depression is normal, self-criticism and self-judgment will only exacerbate the situation. So, if you experience these emotions, talk to people about them and ask for their assistance.

TIP OF THE DAY

Feeling anxious? Take a trip down memory lane and do some coloring for about 20 minutes to help you clear your mind. Pick a design that's geometric and a little complicated for the best effect.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

Sometimes we forget how blessed we are: My hot water works, I have groceries to eat, I can still afford eggs, I have clean sheets on my bed, I have family and friends that love me, and I woke up today in my right mind. If that’s not blessed I don’t know what is.
