🌎 POSITIVE NEWS OF THE DAY!
Tigers in Nepal are making a comeback from extinction! Nepal has recently reported that its tiger numbers have increased by 40% since 2015. By working with local communities to protect wildlife habitats and stop illegal poaching, the country has seen a record 190% increase in these beautiful animals since 2009! The good news has arrived with perfect timing - during the year of the tiger in the Chinese lunar calendar. This wonderful news is proof that bringing animals back from the brink of extinction is possible.

Chanting meditation: Namu Myōhō Renge Kyō are Japenese words from the practice of Nichiren Buddhism. The words are designed to activate your consciousness, eradicate a negative mindset, and fill your whole self with positivity. Find a comfortable seat and bring your hands to a prayer position at your heart center. Close your eyes and repeat the phrase Namu Myōhō Renge Kyō (pronounced Nam Myhoho Renge Kyo). Set a timer and start by practicing for a couple of minutes, increasing as you get more comfortable. Do you notice a difference in your body and mindset??
Ecstatic dance to lift your spirits
Imagine this…
You walk into a garden filled with people looking as anxious as you about what’s to come.
The person leading the ecstatic dance experience tells you that they will be guiding you to move freely through a series of songs designed to help you dance without inhibition - eeeek!
It starts slowly. You begin with a few guided stretches to warm up your body before eventually standing up and swaying your body to soothing sounds.
As the music starts to switch towards something with more of a beat, you can’t help but find yourself getting into the swing of things. You take a quick glance around you and notice that not only is nobody looking at you, but they seem to be wrapped up in their very own world of dance.
You start to get into the music, letting your inhibitions go and allowing your to body move without rules.
You feel the ground beneath your feet, you feel connected to the sky above you.
And most of all, you feel secure surrounded by all of these beautiful people.
When the music finishes, you can’t believe that it’s already over.
But the good news? You can create the same environment for yourself at home!
Ecstatic dance is all about moving freely to music that lifts your spirits in order to feel more deeply connected to yourself and the world around you.
To create the experience at home, all you need is to search for (or create!) an ecstatic dance playlist. Once you’ve found your playlist, it’s all about getting the environment right…
Pick your dance floor - inside or outside (the only requirement is that you have enough space to move freely!).
Burn some incense.
Light a candle.
Place your yoga mat on the floor.
Get your journal ready.
And dance.
Once you’re finished, you might like to free write about your experience, how you’re feeling, and any goals that you would like to achieve in the near future.
Ecstatic dance has a way of helping us to remember that anything is possible.
We are so excited for you to try it!
An energizing yoga flow to counteract the heat
Hot days can make it difficult to move, let alone practice yoga! This slow practice will give your heart a chance to relax and your brain a moment to wake up from the fog of summer heat.
Mountain pose to forward fold
Begin moving the energy around your body by flowing between the mountain pose and forward fold.
Start by finding your center of gravity in a mountain pose with your feet slightly apart, arms at your sides, and palms facing forwards. Take a deep breath in as you lift your arms overhead. On an exhale, hinge at your hips and bend your knees as you bring your hands to rest on your shins, blocks, or the floor in front of your feet.
Inhale and place your palms on your shins, finding halfway lift with a straight spine. Then exhale to come back to forward fold.
Take a deep breath in as you lift back into mountain pose, raising your arms above your head and drawing them down to your sides on an exhale.
Repeat this flow 3-5 times.
Plank pose
Invite strength and endurance into your body for the day by practicing plank pose.
Come to all fours with your knees below your hips and wrists below your shoulders. From here, step back with your feet to come into plank pose. Stay lifted through the glutes and push into your hands as though you’re trying to wrap your shoulders around the sides of your body.
Stay here for 3-5 breaths before bringing your knees to the ground and resting for a breath or two.
Repeat plank pose 3-5 times.
Legs up the wall
Spending a few breaths or minutes in this pose is the ideal way to give your heart a rest.
Start by sitting with one of your hips against a wall. Then turn your body to lay down as you lift your legs to rest on the wall.
Place your hands on either side of your body with your palms facing up and inhale deeply into your belly.
You might like to add a folded blanket or small cushion beneath the lower back to make this pose even more restorative.
